Photography is not just about snapping pictures; it is a journey of discovery, about exploring the world around you with openness and joy and photographing what makes your heart dance! Come join us for five days of learning and celebrating your vision.
Led by award-winning photographers Brenda Tharp and Jed Manwaring, you will explore the difference between looking and seeing deeply, and feeling. You will learn how light, color, gesture, and the concepts of visual design can help you express what you see and feel. You will explore intimate landscapes, abstracts, impressionistic interpretations, and the power of minimalism.
Brenda and Jed will begin the workshop with a presentation of images they have created around the world and close to home, discussing a variety of topics to get your creativity flowing. Throughout the workshop, they will provide coaching to help you develop and refine your creative eye and how to apply different techniques in making images. We will visit farms, towns, beaches, and more on Whidbey Island to create photographs. There will also be classroom time for optimizing your images, sharing and feedback.
You will leave with a renewed sense of creativity and the skills and techniques to translate what you see into a compelling photograph.
Instructor Bios
Brenda Tharp grew up using a camera to photograph the great outdoors with her family. She later carved out a career in editorial and commercial photography, and photographed annual reports, ads, corporate brochures, photo essays and stories for regional and national magazines. She has had the great fortune to be able to spend quality time in nature in pursuit of images that capture the remarkable, outstanding beauty of our planet. As a workshop instructor, she helps guide people to find their own creative vision and how to use the tools of processing to bring their vision to light.
Jed Manwaring has photographed on assignment, fine art, conservation photography, workshops and tours, nature, landscapes, people, and travel. As a professional photographer he specializes in people on location, landscapes/cityscapes, and nature. He creates dynamic images on location for clients and for stock. He brings his unique vision and experience to every photograph he creates. Using his eye for detail, and his solid problem solving abilities, he creates compelling images, be it of natural or man-made subjects.
