Join photographer Dave Julian for a workshop that expands the creative boundaries of photography through in-camera multiple exposures. By overlaying frames as you shoot, you’ll explore the interplay of light, form, focus, and gesture—producing images that blend experimentation, imagination, and the surprising alchemy of light, day or night. The process is as fun and surprising as the results, opening new avenues of active creative expression.

We’ll begin with a presentation of collected images using in-camera layering and intentional camera movement (ICM), discussing how exposure, tone, and blend settings shape their unique aesthetics. Dave will demonstrate camera setup for multiple exposures, manual focus, and color shift, and provide hands-on assistance as needed. Two guided practice sessions will introduce key techniques, followed by assignments at varied locations for both structured and free experimentation. Students can add intentional de-focusing and motion for even more expressive results.

Each day’s work will be reviewed in our digital lab for steady growth and refinement. As an Adobe Lightroom expert, Dave will also show how to optimize ICME images to unlock their full potential. Get ready to push your boundaries and discover a new dimension of photography! Participants should bring a laptop, portable hard drive, and their camera’s manual in any format. Tripod optional. Feel free to contact Dave if you have questions before or after registering.
