Do you struggle with color? Do you want more vibrant color, so your work jumps off the wall? More controlled color, so your trees look realistic? Want to know why the primary color paint set you just bought won’t make a good purple?
Make color work for you! No matter what medium you use—oil, acrylics, watercolor, gouache or beyond—you can be color-confident!
In this class, we will have a lot of fun playing with paint. We’ll cover:
This class is designed to be fun and helpful for any medium or painting style. We’re going to dig in and experiment with color in watercolors and acrylics for easy clean-up, but the principles will apply to any medium. Our goal for this class is not necessarily to create finished artwork, but to play with color, gain skills, have fun and get ideas for future projects.
The materials fee will cover the acrylic and watercolor paints and surfaces we’ll use during the morning part of the class. I will demonstrate in oils, and you are welcome to stick with the class paints or bring any medium you’re comfortable using for the afternoon.
Instructor Bio: Lorraine Goddard’s artwork unites two of her greatest passions: creativity and the outdoors. As an avid traveler and hiker from the Pacific Northwest, she strives to fill her paintings with the beauty and power of nature.
All of Lorraine’s oil and gouache paintings—whether completed in the field or in her home studio in Washington State—are fundamentally inspired by the plein air experience and the color of light in the natural world. Her paintings have featured in group shows since 2021 with the Plein Air Washington Artists, and she has been juried into competitions and exhibitions including Driggs Plein Air, Pacific Northwest Plein Air, Plein Air Edmonds and Plein Air Views of Washington.
After fifteen years as a classroom teacher, Lorraine now divides her time between her day job as a writer and her passion for painting. She lives near Seattle and has degrees in history, education, and music from Whitworth University and a Master of Education from the University of Washington.
