Level: All levels welcome
In this workshop you will learn techniques for creating an extremely lightweight yet well felted nunofelt scarf. We’ll use two layers of silk hankies and two layers of silk fabrics to create different marble designs on the two sides. You’ll be challenged to lay the superfine merino wool extremely thin to create a drapey and featherlight fabric. Fringes are optional on the scarf. We’ll significantly reduce the rolling time by applying the “dryer method”.
Learning about the finishing touches is an important part of the class. Very sharp scissors are essential to successfully cut nice shapes from the silk fabrics!
Instructor Bio
Flóra Carlile-Kovács finds endless inspiration in nature and in the natural state of her materials. Felt, as an expressive medium, is conducive to an instinctive and spontaneous creative process. Felting is an underestimated and underrepresented craft in the art world. Her mission is to show the possibilities of applying handmade felt in interior designs, to find the audience for this craft, and to break the boundary between craft and fine art. She has been teaching felt making on all levels since 2005 and leading Felt Tours to Hungary annually since 2016. She lives and works in Seattle, WA.
