Creating Bright Vibrant Energetic Landscape Paintings from Photos

Throughout this three day workshop, students will explore how to create beautiful landscapes from beginning to completion. Mike will demonstrate how to compose a scene from photo reference to create paintings with rich color, depth, and energy. Students will be taught a multi-layered approach from block-in to finish, using techniques such as glazing, dry brushing, palette knife, impasto, scumbling, and a multitude of tools to achieve a three-dimensional feel in a painting. Mike will cover all aspects of the picture-making process including drawing, values, edges, and color temperature. With an emphasis on design and composition, Mike will also demonstrate how to use multiple photographs to compose a single reference piece for a studio painting. Mike will teach his methods for capturing stunning landscapes through demonstration and individual instruction. Mike’s studio is large, airy, and inviting, with plenty of room and lighting for everybody to work comfortably. Limited to a maximum of twelve participants to ensure plenty of individualized instruction.
Skill level: advanced beginner to intermediate; suitable for oil and acrylic painters alike.
