All About Water – Reflections, Transparency, Depth and Dimension in Oil

Dates: Friday, May 13th – Sunday, May 15th, 2022 (9am-4pm)
Throughout this three-day workshop, students will explore how to create vivid still water lake scenes from start to finish. Mike will demonstrate how to compose a scene with reflection, depth, underwater and surface elements, movement, light and texture. Students will be taught a multi-layered approach from block-in to finish, using techniques such as glazing, dry brushing, palette knife, impasto, scumbling, and the multitude of tools to achieve a three-dimensional feel in a painting. Mike will cover all aspects of picture-making from drawing to values, edges, color mixing, mark-making, color temperature, and brush/tool selection. Emphasis will be placed on reflections and transparency of water. Subject matter will be landscapes.
Join Mike in his own studio as he guides his students in creating stunning landscapes using simple techniques. Mike will teach his methods for capturing stunning water scenes with demonstration and individual instruction.
