Join photographer and digital pioneer Jeff Schewe for five days of shooting, processing, and printing to teach you the steps for producing a truly outstanding final fine art print. Whidbey Island is a photographer’s paradise so you’ll have plenty to see and shoot where Jeff will teach you the importance of his four-step workflow;
SEE, SHOOT, FIND & FINISH!
It’s simple – S2 F2 (not to be confused with R2 D2).
SEE: The seeing part may seem obvious, if you know how to look and see what is being offered. You never know when you’ll find a photograph that is begging to be made. Part of seeing is keeping your head on a swivel and watching your surroundings and rooting around untill you find something worth pressing the shutter. Whether you’re in an exotic location or in your own backyard, there are photographs to be made.
SHOOT: Again, it’s obvious that in order to make a photograph, you need to have a camera at the ready so you can press the shutter. You also need to have the experience and the knowledge to bring your skills into play when you shoot. Long lens? Great depth of field? Fast shutter speed or slow? How high an ISO can you really use successfully. In this class, you’ll be bringing all your skills to bear!
FIND: Well, great, you went out and saw some great stuff and you think you got some great captures. How do you decide what is or isn’t worth the effort to spend the time processing them? Whether you use Lightroom, Camera Raw & Bridge or some other app, you still need to learn the quick and easy ways of selection editing-finding the gems on the gravel, so to speak. From the many to the few.
FINISH: Once you’ve found your diamond in the rough, you need to cut and polish it to bring out its beauty. Jeff is an expert at post processing and preparation for print. Heck, he even wrote a couple of books on the subject, The Digital Negative and The Digital Print. You can accomplish most or your heavy lifting in Lightroom or Camera Raw, but you usually need to spend some time in Photoshop to use its power and precision. When you’ve optimized your photograph, you’ll then need to prepare it for printing. For this task, Lightroom is optimal because of the ability to soft proof and create print templates for user error reduction.
This workshop will include plenty of shooting opportunities and time to edit and process your photographs. Everybody will also have the opportunity to make prints on the school’s Epson Pigment Inkjet printer.
This workshop will be challenging, and it will also be productive and fun!
