What does your Guardian look like? A superhero? An angel? A Kochina Doll? A totem pole? Bring your guardian concept and let’s make it into a 3’X7’ quilt. You decide on design and palette.

Beginning with large black shapes (head, torso, limbs) we will add color and details as we go. Come with a definite concept or let it be revealed through improv!

Instructor Bio
Irene Roderick’s artwork is currently grounded in the textile arts, focused on quilt making and fabric dyeing. She is trained as a painter and has always been interested in pattern and color and how these elements can evoke emotional and political responses. A few years ago, she encountered modern quilting and loved the idea of making a “utilitarian painting.” She learned to quilt and accidentally discovered improvisational quilting, an intuitive, spontaneous process she calls “dancing with the wall.” The technique opened up a new-found creativity for her. This work is entirely intuitive and visceral.
