Learn enough to play for a lifetime!

This is the perfect technique for travel journaling, hiking, biking, sauntering, sitting in a café or boring lecture. Capture what you think you see in 25 minutes or less using a water soluble pen, a 4 x 6 inch pad of paper and a small paint set. Ideal to paint fearlessly in public with minimal equipment, total portability, speed, no interruptions and no clean-up. Workshop includes several of the watercolor techniques of John Singer Sargent.

Day one: Basic technique and landscape, finishing within 25 minutes. Perspective of contrast, color, and focal point
Day two: Still life, the ‘cobbled’ still life and people, plus the ‘problem’ with the pen
Day three: Plein air (on location), using the technique fearlessly anywhere; several extra techniques as time allows
Interactive critiques and demonstrations are both given constantly in a very positive, personal atmosphere. Instruction is geared to the individual needs of each person so each achieves their goal.

Testimonial from a former student at Canyon Ranch, “You just changed my life: I can do this! This workshop is ideal for timid beginners who want to fearlessly paint in public, and perfect for experienced artists who want mobility, minimal equipment and no clean-up.”

Instructor Bio
Kath Macaulay enjoys capturing the moment as an artist. There is always a reason to paint something that catches the eye and the mind. Most of her paintings are designed to give the viewer a feeling of serenity, and of having visited the same location. As an instructor, she delights in teaching her easy, totally portable, no-clean-up technique to beginners and professionals alike. For the beginner it is an open door to art and seeing the world with a new eye. For the advanced artist, it is a totally portable system for 10 to 25 minute sketches when standing in line, hiking, in a café, on horseback, anywhere. The workshops are well organized, fast, loaded with information. Motto: Learn enough to play for a lifetime!
