Instructor Jerry McLaughlin
Dates August 13-17, 2018 (9am-4pm)
Materials Fee: $35
skill level: beginner to intermediate
Description This beginner/intermediate course starts with the basics of working abstractly with cold wax and then builds from there. In addition to continued work on more advanced techniques, this course helps artists develop their visual vocabulary. Emphasis is placed on composition and the fundamentals of art: value, color, line, shape, form, and texture, along with basic concepts of abstraction.
Participants develop an understanding of supports, tools, materials, and techniques, including: using cold wax medium with oils, dry pigments, and other additives; using a squeegee, brayer, palette knife, and other nontraditional tools; working wet-in-wet; and the development of rich texture and history in a painting using direct application, transfer techniques, solvent/pigment pours, and reductive techniques. Participants also develop essential skills for self-critique and tools for improving their art.
