Dates: Saturday, September 27th – Sunday, September 28th, 2025 (10am-4pm)
Level: Beginner
This class is for beginners with a little or no experience painting with acrylics, and also for people who want a little help getting started or restarted in their painting practice. We will explore the basics of acrylics including materials, surfaces: both traditional & non-traditional, brushes and other tools, and then a little about color theory, color mixing, paint application, ways to integrate other mediums, and composition. Together, we’ll explore the idea of artistic license as a way to give ourselves permission to develop our own styles. Beth teaches a style that balances representational and abstract, encouraging lots of artistic license.
She’ll take you through her process of painting trees and you’ll paint your own trees in a supportive environment with lots of encouragement to make them your own. The natural world is full of endless inspiration! Beth loves painting trees because trees are easy to draw — nature comes in all shapes and sizes and isn’t perfect! When you complete the class, you’ll be ready to take your paints and brushes home and continue painting and exploring on your own.

Paint: At minimum, you should bring tube acrylic paints in the three primary colors (red, yellow, and blue), Titanium white, and black. No craft paints. Here is one set. If you want to bring more colors, Beth recommends: Prussian Blue Hue, Green Gold, Light Phthalo Blue
Brushes & tools: Beth recommends at minimum having a couple of flats, around 1/2″ wide and around 1″ inch wide. If they’re not exactly those sizes no big deal. Here is one example. If you have more brushes bring what you have!
