In a sense, we’ll leave the photography that is normal for us behind and venture into a new and unexplored area. Abstract images can instill imagination and curiosity. There are no parameters of context need and attention must be paid to visual interests when composing abstract photographs. There is also a technical side that must be practiced. We will develop both the right brain as well as the left, which is what is required to make these abstract photographs.
Whidbey Island offers endless possibilities, and we will be visiting a variety of the locations that have been visited by us in past workshops.
We will meet at 8:30am on Monday morning November 13th at the Pacific NorthWest Art School and go over itineraries as well as a presentation on abstract photography. We will spend considerable time in the field as well as have time to review our work together. We will conclude about 3PM on Wednesday afternoon November 15th affording time to travel home if necessary.
Instructor Bio: Jack Graham feels that the experience of immersing himself in the location is just as important as the photograph. As a photographer, his mission is to make images that depict his emotions and relationship to his surroundings and through the creative process. His prior life as a professional musician overlaps in the creative sense with his photography. It’s the whole experience that fascinates him. Negotiating the creative boundaries of a new image happens before the camera is even used. The places visited and friends made through photography enrich the process. Images are the end product of the process. Making art keeps him going. Artist first, photographer second.
