Explore a different facet of screen printing on fabric; the unpredictable, the intuitive, the “happy accident”. In this guided online workshop, you will experiment with the silkscreen as a painting and monoprint tool. Using fiber reactive dyes, deconstructed printing and polychromatic printing, create marks, textures and images unique (mostly) to this process. The techniques are simple, the results can be breathtaking in their beauty and complexity. The resulting fabric may be used as an end in itself or a point of departure for further embellishment.
Our workshop will be a hybrid zoom with Kerr presenting “live” and prerecorded demos. There will be two or more scheduled demos a day with Kerr online and available throughout the day. The workshop is limited to eight participants, allowing time for questions, individual consultations and showing work. Prior experience with fiber reactive dyes is recommended. While dye mixing and safety will be covered, Kerr prefers to teach folks with some knowledge of fiber reactive dyes in her online workshops.
The first day will be from 9 – 12:30pm (approx.) with intro, getting acquainted and simple drawing exercises to prepare for the rest of the workshop. The remaining three days will be from 9-4.
