Gaukel, Rochelle (#6288) Soldering Intensive, October 10-13

In this course we will be covering all the necessary learning curves for the art of soldering. From wrapping glass charms to constructing a soldered crown, you will learn the basics needed for doing the prep work before the soldering begins. For the crown centrepiece, we will make a round box and line it with vintage papers or wallpaper where it will showcase a faux tin type photo. (You will also learn how to make these faux tin type photos in class). By adding the supplied rhinestones, flowers and buttons, you will see your centrepiece take shape. Once we have wrapped all of our glass, chandelier crystals and buttons, we can begin the process of soldering them all together for a one-of-a-kind crown.

Skill level: Beginner. This 4-day course will also give you the opportunity to practice making lots of soldered glass charms. Papers, rhinestones, buttons, glass glitter, etc. will be supplied for all the students to use.

Instructor Bio: Rochelle Gaukel is a Chilliwack, British Columbia-based soldering artist who got started in this medium 15 years ago on a trip to Italy. From that moment on, she was hooked and wanted to learn more. As she took as many classes on this medium as she could, she soaked up all of the knowledge and practice of this art. She loves creating with vintage bits and pieces and her creations always have that time worn appearance. While on the hunt for items to include in her soldered art and jewelry pieces, these always include antique papers, vintage photos, and rhinestones and jewels from old neglected jewelry. The best part of the hunt is finding something that speaks to her heart and begs her to tell a story creating with it.
