Mitchell’s semi-abstract and atmospheric landscapes have been exhibited nationally and in Seattle at Lisa Harris Gallery. His book, “Landscape Painting: Essential Concepts and Techniques for Plein Air and Studio Practice” (Watson-Guptill 2009), with over 45,000 copies in print, is the best selling landscape painting book in the nation. He is also a dedicated workshop instructor in the Pacific Northwest, teaching at Pacific NorthWest Art School, Gage Academy of Art, Winslow Art Center, Dakota Art, and Daniel Smith Artist’s Materials. Mitchell has led painting adventures in Italy three times and will be teaching at Sedona Arts Center in 2020. He has also lectured on Impressionism and landscape painting at the Seattle Art Museum and written for “International Artist” and “Artists & Illustrators” magazines.
