Felted fabric is thought to predate woven or spun fabric. Once people began herding sheep and other fiber animals they were able to see that the fibers matt and used that knowledge. Some of oldest examples of hats from Scandinavia are 3,500 years old. An added benefit is that it is a sustainable, natural product with a soft feel that can drape in a sheer fabric as well as be used as a sound proofing material in a library or auditorium. By mixing or dyeing their own wool and silk, artists have total control and always create an original work of art which is what artist Janet King will be teaching you in this session. All materials are provided, and you will leave with your very own unique hand felted and hand dyed wearable silk velvet fingerless gloves.
