Chad Alice Hagen, Instructor
Dates June 11-15, 2018 (9am – 4pm)
Materials Fee: $75
Do you have drawers full of fabric samples from surface design classes, beautiful textiles found on your travels, stunning finds from resale shops or cherished calico left over from grandma’s quilting days? This exciting book making class will introduce you to bookbinding techniques – that will incorporate your textiles as the covers.
The week will be filled with creating 4 to 5 different and useful blank books. We’ll tea dye pages for a Perfect Bound notebook; use the french link stitch to create a hard cover sketchbook, learn long stitch binding for a sturdy Field/Garden/Vacation/Wine Journal and more!
You’ll learn the steps of beginning book making from folding, punching and sewing paper into text blocks to transforming your own fabric into book covers to learning how to accept all the praise you’ll receive when you show your friends what you have made.
All levels, most supplies furnished.
*Sharp, pointed scissors (we will be cutting both paper and fabric)
*interesting fabrics you may have printed, made, found, rescued: we will be making 4-5 books so fabric weight=quilting weight. Bring fabrics you like, we will be using pieces in sizes ranging from 10” x 5” to 14” x 24” so bring fabric 1/3 yd to 1 yd. Do not cut any fabric to size before class. I will be bring extra fabric to share.
*A 12” X 18” cutting mat will be useful.
*rotary cutter & board only if you have and use them would be useful. (We otherwise will use scissors for all fabric cutting)
*IF you have made books before you may want to bring your favorite bookmaking tools (break off knife, folder, awl, brushes, etc.) I will have basic tool kits for everyone to use.
